Not all makeovers need to be crazy dramatic and cost a fortune. The smallest changes can completely transform a space. (P.S. Scroll to the bottom for your chance to win a $100 Target Gift Card!)
Now that the kids are heading back to school, it’s OK to make some time for yourself. Whether that means an extra 10 minutes in the shower , running a hot bath or even just being able to have 5 minutes to yourself while you go to the bathroom (moms of toddlers, you know what I’m saying!)….now is the time to give your bathroom some love!
Let me introduce you to my master bathroom. It’s the world’s smallest master bathroom but it does the trick. It needs to be completed gutted but that won’t be in cards for several years. Here’s what it looked like last week:
Notice the lack of storage and zero personality. Being honest, it looks dingy and gross and certainly not a place I would want to relax in.
I popped over to my local Target this weekend and grabbed a few “Bathroom Refresh” essentials. By simply switching out the towels and adding some fresh accessories, my Master Bathroom looks 100% better. Don’t get me wrong – it still needs to be gutted (!!) but this is a huge improvement on the before and in-between!
Because I know someone will ask – the paint color on the wall is Serious Gray by Sherwin Williams :-)
I don’t usually buy pink anything pink but these fringed towels are so gorgeous. They add the perfect amount of femininity and softness to my bathroom.
There’s something about a bundle of white washcloths that I love and I never want to unbundle them, I just like them sitting there with their cute little ribbon.
This tank basket looks stylish thanks to the wicker but also smartly has 4 compartments inside that nicely stash away my makeup, lotions and potions…oh, and of course my Quilted Northern® (because Quilted Northern® is always in style!)
Forget refilling your toilet roll for longer periods of time. With 4x more sheets, the Quilted Northern 4 in 1 mega roll is designed to give you more. This new Quilted Northern shows just how small changes can have a major impact.
How cute is this towel rack that I made? Now that you have more time for yourself, you’ll have time to whip one of these out! They only take about half an hour, anyway. The tutorial is right down the bottom of the post – be sure to check it out.
Again, those towels!! Love them.
More storage in the form of these great mason jars which is a great solution for my makeup brushes.
And now for more on that DIY Towel Rack…
DIY Towel Rack
The fun thing about making your own towel rack is that you can customize it to whatever color and shape you want. I like the rustic farmhouse look, so I went with stained wood and gray paint.
You Will Need:
Vinyl Cut Out (I created the word “Towels” using my Silhouette)
Print our your word or phrase on vinyl. Remove the backing so that only the cut out of the word is left.
Transfer to transfer paper.
Position vinyl on previously stained or painted piece of wood (make sure that stain has dried for at least 48 hours prior – paint needs at least 24 hours). Burnish the vinyl with a hard object or just rub really well with the side of your head to make sure it adheres.
Carefully peel back the transfer paper, leaving the vinyl adhered to the wood. If you don’t want to paint over it, then you’re done with the vinyl and can skip to step 8. Otherwise go to step 5.
Seal the edges of the vinyl with Mod Podge. This step helps give sharp edges when you later remove the vinyl.
Paint over the entire piece of wood. You can use a roller for a smooth coat or a paintbrush for a more rustic look. The paint color I’m using is a leftover sample pot of Benjamin Moore’s Gray Owl.
Let the paint dry for about 15 minutes but don’t let it fully cure. Carefully peel back the vinyl. You may need to use a pin or a weeding tool.
Screw on as many robe hooks as you need. I grabbed these ones from the hardware section at Target.
Then all you have to do is attach a sawtooth hanger or another hanging mechanism to the back and you’re done!
