Or in this case, the pictures are on the wall. Yup, today I’m showing you the progress I’ve made with my living room gallery wall. As I had previously mentioned, our living room wall was looking very bare and sad (for oh…two years now!?). After consulting the YHL forums I decided to give the gallery wall treatment a go. I was snowed in yesterday so had a whole afternoon to work on this project. None of my grading got done, but the gallery wall is officially in progress!
I mostly shopped my house for prints and frames that weren’t in use but I also downloaded some free prints and had Shutterfly print them up and I picked up some cute frames on clearance at the craft store/Target/HomeGoods. I even jazzed up a couple of plain black frames with a stencil and gold acrylic paint. It’s not quite finished as I haven’t figured out what I want in a couple of spots yet.
To plan it out, I tried the technique of putting up paper to represent each frame, but it didn’t really work for me:
I needed to see the colors of the frames to really figure out what I wanted so I ended up using the “eye balling” technique…i.e. putting one frame up and just eye balling where I wanted the next one to go. I’m a pretty visual person so it worked well for me!
Please ignore the random white spots on the wall. I had to do some spackling when I took down the picture ledge and I haven’t bothered to sand and paint over them yet. While I have installed the missing ring pull from the TV stand (did you notice it missing in the pic above?!), the baseboards STILL need to be painted white to match the rest of the house. We also need to have our cable hook-up relocated to this wall. SO MANY ANNOYING LITTLE THINGS!!
That’s it for today. In the words of Ellen DeGeneres, be kind to each other!
