Did you spot my DIY chalkboard lettering during Part 3 of my Christmas Home Tour? I promised I would share my Easy DIY Chalkboard Lettering Tutorial so here it is!
I’ve tried MANY different methods for lettering and this one is the easiest and quickest. And has the best results.
What You Will Need:
- Printed copy of your words/phrases. Print them as big as they need to be!
- Chalk (I used white but you can pick whatever color you want)
- A Pen
- A Chalkboard (learn how easy it is to make your own here)
What You Need to Do:
First, figure out exactly how you want your words to be positioned. I cut my words out individually to make it easier to space them the way that I wanted.
Next, color in the back of each printout with chalk. You want to make sure that each word is completely covered. You can blow off excess if needed.
Place the words chalk side down on your chalkboard. If you need to, feel free to use some painters tape to secure it in place.
With a pen, slowly and carefully trace the outline of each letter with your pen. When your done, pull the paper away to be left with your outline! Any stray marks can be wiped away at the end with a tissue.
One thing that I figured out…if you have extremely decorative lettering, it’s also a good idea to color inside the lines with your pen – as opposed to just tracing an outline. This helps especially on the thin upstrokes that may be difficult to get perfect after the fact.
Fill in any gaps with a piece of chalk (I break mine into pieces and use the sharp edges) or a chalk marker. You will have a lot more control and a cleaner finish with a chalk pen. But alas, all I had was my son’s chalk so that’s what I used!
This DIY chalkboard lettering tutorial really couldn’t be an easier, don’t you think?
